Dr. Arqué holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona (1968), earned his doctorate of Medicine and Surgery at Malaga University (1990) and was granted a Summa Cum Laude for his thesis: Congenital Anomalies of Coronary Arteries. He is a specialist in General Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. He received training in his speciality in France, Italy and the United States. For 9 years, he was associate specialist in the Cardiovascular Surgery Unit of Barcelona’s Vall d’Hebron Pediatric Hospital and, from 1981 to March 2010 held the position of Head of Section, Cardiovascular Surgery, at Malaga’s Carlos Haya Hospital. He currently devotes all of his time to heart surgery in the private sector as Coordinator of the Cardiac Surgery team at the Quiron Hospital (Malaga) and as a member of the Cardiac Surgery team of Xanit International Hospital.

He devotes part of his time in surgery to access placement for patients undergoing hemodialysis. He founded Malaga University’s Cardiovascular Research Group alongside Professor V. Sans-Coma, professor of Animal Biology. The results of this Basic Research programme have improved knowledge of heart malformations, in particular of the bicuspid aortic valve. The connections between our group and the Heart Unit at Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital have been of use in application of the latest developments in the study and treatment of heart patients.
